Many of CCDA’s members ventured down to Victoria last week to participate at the Dressage With The Star’s show conducted over three days at Werribee Park, National Equestrian Centre.

Since its inception the event has grown to become the most prestigious Young Horse Championship in Australia. In 2002 DWTS introduced the Young Jumping Horse Championship and the event became known as Dressage & Jumping with the Stars (DJWTS). The young dressage & jumping horse program is supported by other exciting classes to ensure spectators are provided with an event to remember. The Dressage and Jumping Master Classes are always a feature on Saturday & then in the evening spectators are entertained with the fabulous Grand Prix Freestyle.

This year’s “Star’s” were Greg Best for the Jumping & Ingrid Klimke for Dressage. Both were extremely generous with advice & equally as entertaining as they explained their simple, effective philosophies of training the performance horse.  Watching Ingrid ride all of the Young Horse finalist’s was a real treat - her true love for the animals is at the core of her training & this shone through as each new ride relaxed & settled into some lovely work under her guidance.  Her ride on the ultimate Champion of Champions, Revelwood Donatello, was fantastic & although reluctant to get off him she was grinning & bubbling with enjoyment as she declared “what more could I ask from a 6 year old – score 10/10”

CCDA member’s Lizzie Wilson Fellows & David & Amanda Shoobridge were kept busy in the Young Horse classes.  The standard across the YH classes was very high prompting regular international guest & highly acclaimed young horse specialist Dr Ulf Moller from major sponsor PSI to praise the standard that he has seen develop over the past 9 years with much improvement in our breeding, training & showing.  Dr Ulf was at his entertaining best when presenting his Master Class in the indoor & had the rider’s doing their best impression of “auction trot” as we all clapped in rhythm.

Friday night’s class was the Inter 1 Freestyle & this formed the 2nd part of the Prix St. George Cup.  It was a very competitive class & highlighted the current depth of quality in the Small Tour ranks.  Maree Tomkinson & her beautiful mare Diamontina rose above them all to claim the overall honours with CCDA member Gina Montgomery & Wallmeyer in 2nd place.  Other NSW rider’s, & CCDA regulars, to place in the PSG Cup were Alexis Hellyer (Waca W) 4th, Mark Arthur (Kooindah Saint) 5th, & Jeremy Janjic (Django of Cacharel) 6th.

Saturday night saw the big guns come out to play with the Grand Prix Freestyle in the indoor.  The packed house was treated to some great programs & with Roger Fitzhardinge on the microphone to interview the breathless rider’s as they came out of the ring it was a very interactive evening.  Chantal Wigan & her Dutch Warmblood Ferero continued their winning streak to claim the winners rug posting 71.225% for their “Abba” program.

As is traditional at DWTS the show wound up with live band “The Bash” & everybody – dressage riders, jumping riders, spectators, sponsors & all the hard working organizing committee let their hair down & boogied the night away.  Another fantastic show with the Stars – bring on next year!

Presidents Report

Well another year has gone by and most people are wondering where it went! For Central Coast Dressage Association it was another successful year, particularly with the celebration at our September Competition of 30 years and still going strong. Like all clubs, our tireless volunteers make the Club what it is today and we are thankful for all those that have gone before us to start and continue the success of CCDA.

The December competition went off well, but a comp wouldn’t be a comp without its little hiccups. One of our judges could not make it due to illness, Dallas and Michel went into overdrive to solve the problem. A thousand thank you’s to Coralie Smythe who willingly stepped in to do the judging. We were lucky with the weather, which has been so fickle, but the day remained dry. The flies though relished the conditions and gave the horses some problems. But all in all, a good day with good entries, especially at the higher and lower levels.

Special mention to our wonderful competition secretary – Claire, Club Secretary - Dallas, Cindy, Wendy and Michel for all the behind the scenes work, Shauna for pencillers, and Jane for a roster of helpers on the day. Sue, Bill and Eva – always there to help out, and Brianna a great little help to all of us in the office.

Many thanks to the following volunteers who helped on the day with pencilling and general duties: Renai Noakes, Sam Farrar, Catherine Railey, Heather Gewin, Carissa Taylor, Tina Armstrong, Anne-Marie Sorenson, Anna Lockwood, Kate Cathers, Irene Gavenlock, Kellie Holland, Petria Briggs, Jackie Bridel, Kathryn Crofts, Susan Fidler, Peter Fischer, Madeline Lalor, Chelsea Hastings, Jo Baker, Jessica Willard. I hope I didn’t miss anyone – it does take many hands to make the competitions run smoothly!!

Our presentation night will be Friday 28th January 2011, 7.30pm at the Gosford Gold Club (details in this newsletter). We would like to encourage all members and partners, supporters etc to come along to make this a social night whether or not you are receiving a prize. We recommend that you support the Golf Club, who are giving us room rental at a very reasonable rate for the evening, by perhaps having a meal there on the evening. Steve Jefferys will be the speaker, which should make it a fun and entertaining evening.

So as we say goodbye to 2010, the Committee of the CCDA thank you for your support. We look forward to seeing you and your trusty steed in 2011. Don’t forget this is a Club with the sole purpose of providing competitions and other dressage related activities for the members. If you think we can improve in any way, we are always happy to take ideas on board. Please do not hesitate to contact any committee member, or contact us via the web site.

Merry Christmas to you and your family (and trusty steed!)

Vice President
